História:

Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense is one of the most successful clubs in Brazil, having won several state, national, South American and World Cup tournaments. Founded on September 15, 1903, by Paulo Candido Dias and 30 other members, Carlos Luiz Bohrer was the first president. According to the main research institutes in the country, Grêmio has the biggest crowd in Rio Grande do Sul.

In its first years of existence, a state championship still did not exist in Rio Grande do Sul, but the Gremistas already stood out in the disputes of titles of lesser expression, like the Wanderpreis Cup and the Citadino Championship of Porto Alegre. In his first match against the International Sport Club in 1909, the Grêmio thrashed by 10x0. The confrontation, which years later would be immortalized as Gre-Nal, is for many the greatest rivalry in Brazilian football. The gaucho championship would only be created in 1920, won by Guarany de Bagé. However, the Tricolor won the next two editions, being the first two-time state champion.

After the Gaucho titles of 1926, 1931 and 1932, the Grêmio lived one of the most delicate moments of its existence. A wave of professionalization of soccer in South American countries reached Rio Grande do Sul and the Tricolor averse to the movement was out of some state competitions. Professionalism was only adopted by the club in the 1940s. In 1946, the Tricolor ended up with a 14-year fast without gaucho titles and three years later held its first international tour. From 1956 to 1968, the Gremio was hegemonic in the State when conquering 12 of the 13 disputed gaucho championships. The period is also remembered for another milestone in the club's history: the inauguration of the Olympic Stadium in 1954.

In spite of the excellent utilization in regional scope in years 50 and 60, the main titles of Imortal Tricolor were reached in the following decades. In 1981, the gremistas were Brazilian champions. Two years later, they won the club's first Libertadores. At the end of the year, Renato Portaluppi (Renato Gaúcho) was consecrated as the main idol in the history of the club by scoring the two goals that secured the world title.

Other important achievements of the Grêmio are the state hexacampeonato (1985-1990), the five Copas do Brasil (2016, 1989, 1994, 1997 and 2001 - largest champion of the competition), Libertadores in 1995 and the Recopa Sudamericana and the Championship Brazilian in 1996. The worst moments in the club's history were the relegation to the 2nd Division in 1991 and 2004.

Grêmio's first uniform consisted of a horizontally striped shirt in the colors blue and havana, a variation of red. Necktie and band on the white waist, shorts and black stockings completed his "Home Kit". However, due to the difficulty of finding fabrics of the color Havana, the shirt started to be composed of vertical stripes blue and black. The current pattern with blue, black and white vertical stripes would be adopted definitively in 1928.
