História:
On October 20, 1905, in Istanbul, a group of students founded Galatasaray Spor Kulübü, albeit unofficially (which would only happen in 1912). The name was a reference to the school of the same name, founded in 1481 in the “Galata Sarayı” (Galata Palace) neighborhood. At the time the club was founded, football in Türkiye was played mainly by foreigners. For Ali Sami Yen, first president and one of the founders, the objective was: “To play like a British person, with our own colors and names. To beat non-Turkish clubs.”
Over the years, Galatasaray has established itself as Turkey's greatest champion, winning the Süper Lig on 19 occasions, in addition to 14 Cups and 12 Turkish Super Cups (until 2013). At the continental level, the Lions also won the UEFA Cup and the European Super Cup in 2000.
Galatasaray's first uniform was red and white, the same colors as the national flag. The club used yellow and black uniforms and currently, its home uniform consists of a half yellow and half maroon shirt, shorts and maroon socks. The shield features the year the club was founded and the initials “G” in maroon and “S” in yellow, intertwined.
